Global Dimension

At East Cowton CE (VC) Primary School we believe it is important to engage our pupils in globalisation. The pace of technological innovation, the challenges posed by climate change and instantaneous global communications mean that today’s primary pupils our growing up in a more complex and rapidly changing world than previous generations. Bringing a global dimension to lessons helps children explore this complexity and the links between their lives and those of people in other parts of the world. The ability to think critically about responses to global issues can help them grow into optimistic, active and responsible global citizens.

Global Education is not reserved to one subject area but relates to each and every subject. In school, our teachers have thought carefully how the eight key concepts: Global Citizenship, Diversity, Human Rights, Interdependence, Conflict resolution, Social Justice, Values and Perceptions and Sustainable Development may be taught. The Global Dimension can be promoted through other subject areas/themes or can provide the main focus for an area of learning. This term pupils in Class 2 have focused upon ‘Diversity’ and have explored this theme in a variety of subject areas: Maths, ICT, RE, Art, Science and Literacy.

Our Global Dimension Policy encapsulates how we at East Cowton CE (VC) Primary School will provide global education for all our pupils. Please take a moment to read the policy and if you would like to share your thoughts with us regarding the policy, we are always happy to receive any feedback given.
